Adoption Fees

Adoption Fees and Expenses
In the presentation of expenses, we present an estimation of adoption expenses that includes all normal and routine expenses associated with the adoption. There are no hidden fees or omitted items. You will find New Beginnings totals are very competitive when all costs are tallied.

Breakdown of Expenses
Application, Home Study and Post-Placement is due for applicants who reside in a state in which we are licensed. The foreign agencies prefer that we conduct our own social services when possible. These fees can vary from program to program due to differences in individual program requirements.

Program fees include all charges paid directly to New Beginnings or the foreign agency. There is often a donation associated with the adoption that is included as well. Also included are such items as the child’s passport, translation of legal documents in country and registration fees.

All Programs fees remain subject to change with written notification.

Incidental Expenses are expenses incurred in connection with the adoption, but are not paid to the benefit of New Beginnings or the foreign agency. The USCIS fee is paid with the filing of the I-600A. Immigration include fees associated with the Child’s Visa. When due, citizenship fees are paid with the N600. Dossier and Apostille is the estimated cost to prepare the dossier for presentation to the foreign country. Travel and Overseas is the projected amount for round trip airfare, domestic airfare, routine ground transportation, hotel and meals. Unlike program fees that are fixed, incidental expenses fluctuate and are expressed as estimates.

Single or Traveling Alone
If you are single and traveling alone, reduce incidental expenses by approximately 1/3. If you are married, but only one spouse is traveling, incidental expenses will be reduced by 1/4.

Other Potential Expenses
Attorney’s fees for the finalization of the adoption in your home state are not included. For most programs the adoption is full and final while you are in the country and no finalization here is required, however, in some States, if you wish to have a new Birth Certificate issued and your child’s name officially changed, you may have to Re-Adopt in your home state. For the Korean and Thailand programs, or if only one spouse traveled, you must finalize the adoption in the U.S. The cost of finalizing varies by attorney and county. As a guide, it will cost between $500 and $2,000 to finalize or re-finalize the adoption.

Next, there are a number of pediatricians that specialize in reviewing the assigned child’s medical information. Although not necessary, an independent review of the medical information by a specialist has become more common. They generally do very good work and if you have a concern you should see a doctor that specializes in this field. The cost ranges from $250 to over $500.

Fee Reduction
New Beginnings may, on a limited basis, reduce the fees for the adoption of a child who is difficult to place due to a special need. This is available if the family has the financial need.

For families who have adopted previously from New Beginnings, the homestudy fee is reduced by $400.00.
