Guatemala Adoption Program Update

Guatemala Adoptions

Guatemala AdoptionsNew Beginnings has a cooperative relationship with Adopolis, a licensed placement agency working out of Washington, D.C. Their Director, Constanza Cardoso-Schultz, has worked in international adoption from Latin America for many years. Her approach to adoption is extremely professional, yet relaxed and practical. There are a large number of children placed from Guatemala into the United States each year due mostly to poverty. The children, who are identified for international adoption by experienced attorneys in Guatemala, are well cared for in foster homes. The medical information is very good and photos and videos are available to families awaiting their child. Children available are usually young; under the age of one year and sex preference is permitted. Families should travel to Guatemala and will only have to stay 3-4 working days before traveling home with their child.

Placements from Guatemala are usually completed within about one year. This is an excellent program for a family wishing to adopt a young child from Central America. In general, adoptions from Guatemala have been wonderfully successful, but the procedures, requirements and length of time can fluctuate from case to case. These difficulties are generally minor and do not detract for the overall success of the program.

In addition to working in Guatemala, Adopolis has also asked New Beginnings to help them place children from Mexico and Colombia, although the numbers of children available are not large. If you may be interested in any of these countries, please contact Barbara Graffeo at our Florida office who is coordinating these programs with Adopolis.

In addition to placements from Guatemala, Adopolis can also help facilitate placements from Colombia and Mexico. If you are interested in information on either of these programs, please call New Beginnings for more details.
