Russia Adoptions
There
are a limited number of agencies authorized to sponsor adoptive placement programs in the Russian Federation.
New Beginnings has cooperative agreements with three of them: Happy Families, Children’s Home Society and
Family Services and Carolina Adoption Services. The Russian program takes about one year to complete and the
length of time can be shorter if you are open to a toddler or older child, or a child with mild special needs.
Russia is more open to applicants being at or around 47 and applicants that are single, but they are strict on
the health requirements for the parents. For example, there can be no mental disorder, acute infectious disease,
alcoholism or drug addiction. As with most programs, recent arrests may disqualify the applicant.
You will receive a medical and photographs of the child at referral. Upon accepting the referral, you will make the first of two trips to Russia. The first is to see the child and submit the adoption petition. The second trip is to finalize the adoption in a Russian Court. To hear more about Happy Families visit www.happyfamilies.org.
