Thailand Adoption Overview
New Beginnings Thailand Adoption Program
A Long-Running and Trusted Program
Our Thailand adoption program has been serving families since 1987, making it one of New Beginnings’ longest-running and most trusted international adoption programs. We have a long-standing partnership with the Pattaya Orphanage, which we visited as recently as last November. The orphanage has a large, professional staff that provides exceptional care for the children.
Though the program is small, it’s an excellent option for young married couples under the age of 40 who are in good health and cannot have biological children.
A Guided Adoption Process
New Beginnings will support and guide your family through every step of the Thailand adoption process. This includes:
- Home study and pre-approval from USCIS.
- Submitting a dossier to the orphanage.
- Child matching: Once a child is identified, the orphanage will prepare a background study for our team to review, which we then present to your family for consideration.
Once your family accepts the match, you will travel to Thailand, where the child is placed with your family. After securing the child’s visa, you will return to the U.S.
Post-Placement and Finalization?
Upon your return home, there is a post-placement supervisory period to ensure that your family and child are adjusting well. The next steps include finalizing the adoption in your local court and securing U.S. citizenship for your child. Finally, the adoption must be registered with the Thai Consulate.
Hague Convention Compliance
Thailand is a Hague Convention country, and its central authorities include the Child Adoption Center (CAC) and the Department of Children and Youth. The entire adoption process is highly regulated, professional, and well-managed. Thailand’s social service system provides extensive support for children, and international adoption is one option among many to ensure their care.
Timeline and Patience
For families open to adopting a waiting child, the process can be much quicker. For others, the process can take around two years or more, requiring patience. Here’s a typical timeline:
- 12 to 15 months for the orphanage to match a child with your family.
- An additional 6 to 8 months for CAC to approve the match.
- The final 3 months to complete the I-800 approval process, after which you will be ready to travel to Thailand.
Preparing for Adoption
Adopting a child from another country can be complex, both emotionally and logistically. New Beginnings offers pre-adoption training and resources to help you prepare for the life changes that adoption brings. We encourage you to seek out additional support and resources throughout the journey to ensure a smooth transition.
At New Beginnings, we are committed to supporting you every step of the way. We wish you all the best as you consider this life-changing opportunity to build your family through the Thailand adoption program.
