Arab and Moroccan Heritage Program
Embracing Cultural Connection through Kafala
At New Beginnings, we encourage families of Arab and Moroccan heritage to consider Kafala for children in need, ensuring that they maintain a strong connection to their ethnic heritage, language, religion, and country. Families of Moroccan descent can be matched with healthy infants, often experiencing shorter waiting times for a match.
Flexible Eligibility Requirements
Arab and Moroccan-American families benefit from more flexible eligibility guidelines. This flexibility allows qualified families to participate in the adoption process with more ease, while still adhering to essential U.S. and Moroccan legal requirements.
Priority in Matching
Families of Arab and Moroccan heritage often receive priority in the matching process, leading to shorter waiting times. This program is designed to help children stay connected to their cultural roots by being placed with families who can nurture their Moroccan identity.
Reduced Kafala Fees
Families where one or both parents were born in Morocco qualify for a Kafala Grant that reduces adoption fees.
Self-Directed Kafala vs. Agency Support
Self-directed kafala (including primary provider cases) may be appropriate in certain situations, such as relative placements. However, families are encouraged to work with an agency. While some self-directed cases are successful, there is an increased risk that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services may not approve the child’s visa. New Beginnings works to align each case with Moroccan and U.S. requirements, reducing this risk.
Relative Adoptions
For relative kafala cases, New Beginnings can assist with the required U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services filings to support visa approval. If a kafala has already been granted, the agency can serve as the primary provider for any remaining services
Take the Next Steps
When circumstances prevent a child from being raised by their birth family, it’s essential to keep them connected to their Moroccan cultural heritage. Arab and Moroccan-American families, consider building your family through Kafala and giving a child the opportunity to grow up with a strong sense of their heritage.
