New Beginnings’ Morocco program now offers more than one path to placement. Some families are matched through the traditional referral process, while others may pursue a court-directed kafala by traveling to Morocco and petitioning the court directly.
Since the beginning of 2026, five children have been placed with families through our Morocco program. Three of these placements involved families who traveled to Morocco to pursue a court-directed kafala.
While there is no guarantee of a match through this process, the court-directed pathway has created additional opportunities for families who are open to a more flexible approach.
Regardless of the pathway, a family’s openness to a child’s age and identified needs remains one of the most important factors influencing the timeline. The children most in need of international adoption are often older or have identified medical, developmental, or social needs.
New Beginnings continues to work with Moroccan courts and local partners to support a structured, transparent, and ethical process for families pursuing kafala. Although these pilot initiatives continue to evolve, they represent an additional avenue for children waiting for families and for prospective adoptive parents considering Morocco.
