I am often contacted by adoptive parents who are trying to better understand their child’s behaviors and how to respond in supportive, effective ways. One resource I frequently recommend is the book Raising Kids with Big, Baffling Behaviors by Robyn Gobbel.
The book provides a compassionate and practical framework for understanding challenging behaviors through a trauma-informed lens. Rather than focusing only on managing behaviors, it helps parents understand the “why” behind them and offers strategies that promote connection, safety, regulation, and healing.
Whether a child was placed at birth or joined their family later in life after experiencing additional transitions, losses, or challenges, many adoptive families have found this book to be an encouraging and practical resource while navigating the unique complexities of parenting an adopted child.
Families interested in learning more can find the book here: Raising Kids with Big, Baffling Behaviors on Amazon
I have also compiled additional adoption and parenting resources by topic on the New Beginnings website: International Adoption Resources
As always, if you need post-adoption support or assistance locating appropriate resources, please feel free to contact me at Carolyn@new-beginnings.org.
