The Costs of International Adoption
International adoption can incur significant expenses, but various forms of assistance are available to alleviate the financial burden. Organizations and foundations offer grants and loans, while the adoption tax credit can provide substantial savings, potentially exceeding $16,180 and significantly reducing the overall cost of adoption.
Comparing expenses between adoption agencies can be complex. International adoption agencies must disclose their fees and provide a sample agreement upon request. While fees are itemized, disclosures vary between agencies, making comparisons difficult.
Here are two guidelines to help when comparing fees. First, compare fees that are set and paid directly to the agency. Second, the fees paid to the foreign provider should be compared, whether routed through the agency or paid directly to the foreign provider. For New Beginnings, these fees are detailed above.
While New Beginnings fees may not be the lowest, our fees are always competitive. When selecting an adoption agency, it’s crucial to consider factors beyond just fees. Nevertheless, adoption can be expensive, and knowing the cost is important.
Need Financial Assistance?
If you have chosen to pursue international adoption, you should know that financial assistance may be available to help with the adoption expenses. Check out our financial assistance page, which lists several options for families hoping to find help in meeting their adoption costs.
Budgeting For International Adoption
When you’ve made the decision to adopt, it makes sense to put together a financial plan before you begin the process. Adoptions come with the standard agency, legal and home study fees, but for international adoptions, there are additional travel, visa expenses and a fee to the foreign agency to consider.
Here are a few tips on how to plan and prepare for these expenses
