Providing Adoption Services Since 1985
New Beginnings began in 1985 when adoptive parents on Long Island came together to create a licensed agency that could better support families navigating international adoption. Chong and Pooja Park joined these early efforts, and the agency was incorporated on February 15, 1985.
New Beginnings became Hague Accredited in 2008 and has maintained accreditation since. We continue to provide home studies in our licensed states and offer placement services to families nationwide.
Over the past four decades, New Beginnings has worked in a wide range of countries and placed more than 2,700 children in permanent homes. Today, our active programs are in Korea, Morocco, Pakistan, Thailand, and Jamaica, with Primary Provider Services for Identified Child adoptions.
Purpose
As stated in our Certificate of Incorporation, New Beginnings’ purpose is “to place out destitute, delinquent, abandoned, neglected, abused, or dependent children.”
Mission
“To find orphaned and displaced children permanent, loving homes by providing quality and compassionate social services throughout the adoption process and after placement.”
Goals
With the child’s best interest as our primary consideration, New Beginnings seeks to identify and approve applicants who can:
- Provide affection, stability, and consistent care
- Meet a child’s physical and emotional needs
- Value a child’s inherent worth
- Understand the impact of separation and loss
- Set realistic expectations and goals
- Demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and effective problem-solving
- Maintain positive attitudes toward adoption
- Commit fully to a child’s long-term wellbeing
- Use community resources to support strong family functioning
Our Commitment to Hague Principles
The Hague Convention establishes a clear order of priority to safeguard children:
- Children should be raised by their birth family or extended family whenever possible.
- If that is not possible, a permanent home should be sought in the child’s country of origin.
- Only after these options are exhausted should international adoption be considered.
New Beginnings adheres to these principles. When international adoption is the appropriate path, it may provide a child with a stable, loving family when no other permanent options are available.
