The year of the sheep was celebrated with energy, happiness and fun on February 7, 2015. The day was both a celebration of the Chinese New Year, and of the strong connection New Beginnings families have with each other.
Over 60 families gathered for a day filled ongoing activities and entertainment. Children participated in making Chinese cultural craft items, winning raffle prizes and seeing the talented Lion Dancers. In China, firecrackers are used during this festive season to drive away evil spirits. We honored this tradition with our own version of the firecrackers, a bubble wrap which the children jumped on!! The noise was almost as loud as the real thing! Firecrackers also signify a joyful time of year which was apparent when seeing our families together. We are glad to have such a strong network of families who gather to celebrate both their children and Chinese heritage, and multi cultural aspects of their families.
Thank you to all who attended and helped make this event a success.
